In line with the celebration of the 2024 National Women's Month, NAMRIA, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS), conducted gender sensitivity training (GST) for three batches of public high school teachers and students. The trainings were held at the NAMRIA Fort Andres Bonifacio Office, Taguig City, on 19 and 20 March and 17 April 2024. The teachers and students were from Kapitolyo High School (KHS) in Pasig City, Gat Andres Bonifacio High School (GABHS) in Taguig City, and Sen. Renato "Compañero" Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School (SRCCMSTHS) also in Taguig City. This writer, the training resource person, is the Head Focal Person of the GFPS-Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Technical Working Group (TWG).
The training focused on various gender concepts using the module produced by the Civil Service Institute of the Civil Service Commission. The module is divided into five parts: Introduction, Sex and Gender, MaSaLi (Magulang, Salinlahi, at Lipunan), Manifestations of Gender Bias, and Ritwal. Under the Sex and Gender, stages and institutions that contribute to various gender issues were discussed comprehensively.
Certificates of appreciation, signed by GFPS Executive Committee Chairperson and OIC-Deputy Administrator Ofelia T. Castro, and copies of the Map 101 Volume XXV issue of Infomapper (NAMRIA's publication on surveys, mapping, and geospatial information management) were handed over to Mr. Joven D. Chavez of KHS, Ms. Marina B. Biñas of GABHS, and Ms. Marilou S. Pagaran of SRCCMSTHS. NAMRIA and GAD IEC materials and centennial calendars were also given as tokens of appreciation to the schools, including the teachers and students who attended the training. The teachers and students, in turn, thanked NAMRIA for inviting them to be a part of the agency's GAD activities.
Seaman Third Class Rhean Mark A Monilla, member of the GFPS-IEC TWG, served as the host and facilitator in all the training. Staff from the Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) and Mapping and Geodesy Branch (MGB), including those assigned at the Engineering Services Division (ESD) of the Support Services Branch (SSB), provided documentation and logistics support.
