Authority of Freeport Area of Bataan to enhance operational efficiency through GIS training
Trainings / Workshops | Jeff N. Hunt MTE, LPT | 28 February 2024 | Print

NAMRIA conducted a training program on Geographic Information System (GIS) with the Authority of Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) at the auditorium of their Administration Building on 12-16 February 2024. This training stemmed from a request made by AFAB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Administrator, Mr. Mohammed Hussein P. Pangandaman that was supported and approved by NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD. The AFAB is focused on promoting sustainable development in the Freeport Area of Bataan, streamlining decision-making procedures, and improving resource allocation through the integration of GIS technology into their operations. This training marks a major step towards their modernization and operational excellence, and represents a turning point in their use of cutting edge technology for effective management and long-term planning.

The goal of the training was to provide staff members with advanced spatial analysis abilities; increase their proficiency in environmental management, infrastructure development, and land-use planning; and use geospatial data in making well-informed decisions. The topics in the five-day course included map appreciation, GIS overview, GIS data management, data analysis, and visualization methods using GIS software. There were interactive sessions which allowed participants to engage with real-world scenarios, enhancing their understanding of GIS concepts and methodologies.

The program started with the event introduction from Ms. Rubie Ann A. Maghirang, Human Resource Management Officer IV of the Human Resource Division, followed by a short prayer and singing of the National Anthem. Ms. Cristina F. Rodrigo, Department Manager A of the Corporate Planning Department, welcomed the resource persons from NAMRIA, delivered the opening remarks, and discussed the relevance of the training on behalf of CEO and Administrator Pangandaman.

Ms. Maghirang then discussed the training reminders and introduced the resource persons from NAMRIA, namely: Mr. Alvin F. Laurio, Mr. Jeff N. Hunt, and Mr. Marco Arkiel C. Ilagan.
