Gender and Development | Annrou R. Ramos | 3 March 2022 | Print

Guided by the common pursuit towards gender equality and women empowerment, NAMRIA joined the country in celebrating this year’s Women’s Month with the theme We Make Change Work for Women. The observance highlights the call for gender-balance in leadership and decision making and the improvement on the mechanisms to address the strategic gender needs of women. This year’s sub-theme, Agenda ng Kababaihan, Tungo sa Kaunlaran focuses on the inclusion of women’s concerns in the government agenda for a more sustainable and equitable development. The celebration also promotes a gender-responsive pandemic recovery amid the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his message, Administrator Tiangco underscored the important roles of women as the binding force and agents of change for the country’s development. “Women’s rights and gender equality and empowerment have long been mainstreamed in our work processes”, Administrator Tiangco said as a testament to the successful implementation of gender-responsive projects, activities, and programs in NAMRIA. “We will continue to push for an enabling environment here in NAMRIA for us to close the gender gap and for our women to realize their full potentials,” he added as GAD remains a top priority in the agency.

The monthlong observance is in compliance with Proclamation No. 227, Series of 1998 declaring the month of March as “Women’s Role in History Month” and Republic Act 6949, Series of 1990 declaring March 8 of every year as International Women’s Day.
