NAMRIA in Taguig City: Signs MOU with seven of eight partner-cities of USAID's CDI

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of seven of eight Cities Development Initiatives (CDI) partners of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with NAMRIA and turn-over of maps were held at the NAMRIA Lecture Hall on 30 January 2017. The seven cities include Batangas, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Iloilo, Legazpi, Tagbilaran, and Zamboanga. Puerto Princesa City completes the eight CDI partners of USAID and had its MOU signing at Conference 1, City Hall, Puerto Princesa City last 24 January 2018. The MOU signing is supported by the USAID-Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth and Equity (USAID-SURGE) Project which fosters the development of conditions for broad-based, inclusive and resilient economic growth in second-tier cities of the country.
 
Administrator Peter N. Tiangco warmly welcomed the mayors and representatives of the CDI cities present. He gave the assurance that NAMRIA will always provide whatever data the partner cities require and technical assistance to the USAID-SURGE Project. The support and provision of data are likewise extended  to the undertakings of the local government units (LGUs), and all its partner agencies. Mr. Anton Rameses, Contracting Officer, USAID, in his message, commended NAMRIA for its generosity and commitment to advancing local development planning through its updated maps and data being a longtime partner of USAID.

Maps such as digital orthoimage and printed orthoimage; and models such as the digital terrain model (DTM) and digital surface model (DSM) as derived from 2013 interferometric synthetic aperture radar (IfSAR) airbone technology for each city were turned-over after the MOU signing. Mayor Oscar Moreno of Cagayan de Oro City represented the seven CDI cities in expressing gratitude to NAMRIA as well as the USAID for the support given to the CDI city partners by providing data that will make their planning easier, more effective, relevant, and responsive.

Iloilo City-Mayor Jose Espinosa III and Mr. Jose Roni Peñalosa; Legazpi City- Mr. Carlos Ante
and Mr. Cicero Caño; Tagbilaran City: Engr, Estella Margate and Mr. Gerard Lavadia;
Zamboanga City- Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco and Mr. Michael Saavedra.
 
An orientation and a demonstration were done to facilitate better use of the data provided by Engr. Mary Jane R. Montemor, Engineer III, Cartography Division and Ms. Arlene B. Brillantes, OIC, Geospatial Systems Development Division on map utilization and sample applications and on the use of the Philippine Geoportal respectively. Mr. Bradley Lowell Baxter, Chief of Party, USAID Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project formally closed the event by highlighting the importance of the project and the great partnership between the CDI cities, USAID, and NAMRIA.
