GEP-NCR and NAMRIA-HB conduct hydrographic survey seminar for geodetic engineers

The Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines-National Capital Region (GEP-NCR), in partnership with NAMRIA, under the leadership of Administrator Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD, conducted a virtual hydrographic survey seminar for geodetic engineers. The event was held on 27-28 February 2023 via the online platform Zoom.

The seminar, which featured hydrographer resource speakers from the NAMRIA Hydrography Branch (HB), aimed to equip all practicing geodetic engineers with knowledge of the current trends and activities in hydrographic surveying. More than 450 participants attended the virtual event.

The opening program included welcome remarks from Engr. Cristy M. Tambo, President of GEP-NCR, followed by a message from Engr. Victorino O. Domingo, National President of GEP. NAMRIA HB Assistant Director for Operations Capt Jose T Arevalo, Jr also delivered a message on behalf of HB Officer in Charge (OIC)-Director Capt Antonio G Valenzuela, Jr.

The two-day seminar covered the following topics: Introduction to Hydrography; Water Levels and Flow, Depth Determination and Hydrographic Survey Practice; System Familiarization, Calibration, and Installation; Topographic and Hydrographic Survey; Survey Data Processing; and Preparation of Data Deliverables. The lecturers were composed of HB commissioned officers, namely: LCdr Maylord M De Chavez, LCdr Gilbert A Alviola, Lt Alvin V Abraham, Lt Marlon E Estropia, Ens Mary Genevieve C Borbon, and PEns Lemuel John A Bagtas. Also part of the lecturer pool was Engr. Jan Bryan O. Navarro from the Physical Oceanography Division-HB.

The certificates of appreciation were awarded to the resource speakers after their respective lectures. The event was formally concluded by Engr. Estrellita C. Bordallo, Vice President of GEP-NCR.
