As NAMRIA continues to adapt to the new normal, it conducted the first ever online Basic Hydrography Training (Module I) via Google Meet on 12-16 April 2021. NAMRIA Administrator, Usec. Peter N. Tiangco, PhD approved the holding of the training which was in response to the request of National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Region XI (Davao) for a program targeting the strengthening of their strategies on mitigating environmental damage to their dams and rivers. The week-long training was facilitated by the Hydrographic and Geomagnetic Data Management Section (HGDMS) of NAMRIA Hydrography Branch (HB) in partnership with the NAMRIA Geomatics Training Center (GTC).
The opening program featured a welcome address from NIA-Region XI Engineering and Operation Division Manager Engr. Felizardo A. Go. This was followed by an inspirational message from Regional Manager Engr. Jimmy L. Apostol and a short message from LCdr Gilbert A. Alviola, Chief of HGDMS. The training sessions were emceed by P/Ens Robin C. Bolor.

NIA-Region XI registered a total of 24 personnel from their regional and provincial offices as participants. The participants were at the NIA–Region XI Conference Room for their online training. Their training module consisted of Hydrography, Geodesy and Positioning, Water Levels and Flow, Depth Determination, Hydrographic Survey Practice, and Hydrographic Data Handling. Twenty-six subtopics were discussed by 10 commissioned officers from NAMRIA HB, namely: LCdr. Maylord M. De Chavez, LCdr. Gilbert A. Alviola, Ltsg. Kerwin C. Ferrer, Ltjg. Alvin V. Abraham, Ltjg. Marlon E. Estropia, Ens. Renz B. Vasquez, Ens. Clarizza B. Biong, Ens. Mary Genevieve C. Borbon, Ens. Ivy Elaine A. Cadalzo, and Ens. Nathaniel IM. España. After their respective lectures, the officers fielded questions on hydrographic survey from the participants. Questions in relation to hydrology were answered by Ens. Patrick Joseph F. Robles who joined in specifically for the topic. To further their learnings in Hydrography, NIA-Region XI signified its intent to request the continuation of the training towards Module II, which focuses more on the practical applications of hydrographic survey.
