NAMRIA NEWSCOOP

Orientation on 5S conducted
By: Jeffrey Quodala

The Subcommittee on Working Environment (5S and Quality Workplace Standards) under the NAMRIA Morale and Welfare Committee (MWC), in coordination with the NAMRIA 5S Committee, conducted two batches of Orientation Program on 5S for newly promoted and hired personnel on 30 January 2015 at the NAMRIA lecture hall. 5S is a set of housekeeping regulations introduced by the Japanese to infuse control in the office for a better and more systematic environment. Its principles fall under Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Systematize), Seiso (Sweep), Seiketsu (Sanitize), and Shitsuke (Self-Discipline).

Support Services Branch (SSB) Director and concurrent MWC Co-Chairperson, Engr. Nelson M. De Leon, delivered the opening remarks in both batches. He strongly urged the participants to practice 5S in their respective workplaces and share the knowledge acquired to their colleagues.

Mr. Jeffrey A. Quodala of the Geospatial Information Services Division-Geospatial Information System Management Branch (GISMB) acted as the resource speaker for the activity. He mainly discussed instituting 5S in the workplace with emphasis on the advantages and importance of it in an organization.

The participants for the first batch or the morning session were personnel from the GISMB, Hydrography Branch, and SSB while the participants for the second batch or the afternoon session came from the Mapping and Geodesy Branch and the Resource Data Analysis Branch.

Ms. Zenaida A. Leaño served as the overall training facilitator for the said activity, with the support of Ms. Annalyn M. Pereña and Ms. Princess April Melody T. Geriane of the Human Resource Development Section-SSB.

The holding of a similar activity for personnel assigned at the NAMRIA multidisciplinary vessels docked at Subic Bay Freeport Zone is now being planned.
