NAMRIA celebrates 21st anniversary

The officials and employees of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) led by Administrator Diony A Ventura will celebrate on 11 July 2008 the 21st anniversary of the agency with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Jose L. Atienza, Jr. as the Guest-of-Honor and Congressman Jose G. Solis of the 2nd District of Sorsogon as Special Guest.

The celebration with a festive motif has as its theme, “NAMRIA 2008:  21- Taon ng Mapagpaunlad na Paglilingkod.”  Starting with a thanksgiving mass at 8:30 in the morning, there will follow special presentations of the NAMRIA departments and the Children’s Joy Foundation, the conduct of parlor games/bingo socials and tiangge, and performances by the Philippine Army Brass Band.

Highlights of the occasion also include the inauguration and blessing of the NAMRIA Library and the NAMRIA Museum and Gallery. The museum showcases early equipment used in surveying and mapping, old maps, and historical documents on Philippine mapping and surveying. A Technology and Map Exhibit set up at the agency lobby showcases current maps, charts, and other geographic information products; and demonstrates innovative technologies  being used in the compilation  and printing of maps and nautical charts. A video on varied services and products of NAMRIA will also be shown. Other activities are the presentation of awards to NAMRIA model employees, tree planting, and the cornerstone laying for the NAMRIA Housing Project.  The whole-day affair will be capped with cocktails.

Expected to attend the celebration are key officials of the DENR and its line bureaus, member agencies of the NAMRIA Governing Board, other government and private institutions, and students from selected schools and universities.

Created by Executive Order No. 192 in 1987, NAMRIA is the  central mapping and geospatial resource  information agency attached to the DENR. It serves the public and private sectors with regard to mapping, charting, surveying, and resource information management.
