The training stemmed from the letter sent by NEDA Region III Regional Director Severino C. Santos to NAMRIA requesting for the conduct of the training on Advanced GIS using ArcGIS for its committee members. In relation to the implementation and preparation of NEDA’s Pampanga River Basin (PRB) Phase II Master Plan, a training on GIS was required in order to comply with and complete the related analysis and studies. The training meant to serve as one of the capacity-building activities of the PRBC. The aim was to equip and re-tool the participants on the applications of GIS in integrated water resources management and river basin planning.

The PRB Phase II Master Plan is the second part of the integrated water resources management and river basin planning. The said plan aims to update the profile of PRB on new data collected; prepare basin-wide multi-hazard maps based on official maps; and assess the implications of the new climate normals, extremes, and vulnerability applicable in the water resources and watershed management, flood control/mitigation, disaster risk reduction and hazard management, wetland management, and economic development sectors among others.

Mendoza attended the last day presentation and served as guest adjudicator on the presented outputs.
